As organic living becomes more and more popular, people are changing their skin care routines to include organic skin care products as well as herbal skin care products. These products can be a healthy alternative to the ‘man made’ products popular in the past. Like any new product line, it is often difficult to determine just which organic skin care product will work
best for you. Carefully looking at each product, determining how it works and what its purpose is as well as examining the label will help you to pick an organic or herbal skin care product line that will work for you.
Read the Label
First, with an organic skin care product, read the label. Remember that the ingredients listed at the top, usually the top third, are the main components of an organic or herbal skin care product, usually 90%. The middle portion represents 5-8%, while the bottom third makes up the rest. ‘Natural’ or ‘Organic’ skin care isn’t always all that organic. To be considered a true organic skin care product, 85% of the ingredients used to produce it must be organic. Keep in mind that, according to industry standards, organic simply means ‘containing carbon’ – everything, even gas, contains carbon. Just because a product is labeled as an organic skin care product, it doesn’t mean that the ingredients that make it up are healthy.
Another tactic to watch out for when selecting organic or herbal skin care products is infused water. Basically, manufactures infuse water with a few herbs or organic compounds and use that water to make up the product. The problem is water makes up around 75% of all organic skin care products. Infused water generally only contains about 5% herbal or organic components. Technically, the infused water alone makes a product 75% organic, but in actuality, it is only 5%. Further complicating matters is the inconsistency of labeling standards.
There is no Such Thing as a Miracle
In spite of the claims made by organic skin care products, there is no such thing as a miracle in a bottle. Most organic or herbal skin care products rely on pretty much the same ingredients, certain vitamins and naturally occurring minerals to help aid in skin care. While these ingredients will contribute to an overall healthy skin appearance, there is no ‘guarantee’ that an herbal skin care product will get rid of wrinkles or that an organic skin care product will clear up acne. Be aware of this when shopping for an organic or herbal skin care product. What you are really shopping for is the product that will best cleanse, moisturize and protect your skin – not a product that claims to solve all of your skin care troubles because of a ‘miracle’ ingredient.
Organic skin care products, as well as herbal skin care products, can be a healthier alternative to skin care products containing man made ingredients. If you are interested in green living through your skin care, be certain to read the labels and know the rules governing product labeling. Be wary of any organic skin care product claiming to be a miracle cure. Organic and herbal skin care products are the wave of the future.
